Loudoun County Board Chairman Scott York, the county’s representative to the Dulles Corridor Advisory Committee, has invited Authority President and CEO James Bennett to give a presentation to Loudoun residents on Wednesday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Loudoun County in the Board Room of the Government Center, 1 Harrison Street. S.E., Leesburg.
Bennett has been asked to speak on both phases of the Metrorail Extension project, the financing plan for the project, proposed toll increases and the rate-setting process. After the presentation there will be an opportunity for the public to provide their comments to Chairman York.
Construction of Phase 1 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project extension to Wiehle Avenue in Reston has begun with current construction efforts primarily concentrated at Tyson’s Corner. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is responsible for constructing the 23-mile extension of the Metrorail in two phases from East Falls Church westward to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County.
The Board of Directors of the Airports Authority has approved the financial plan, which includes a proposed toll rate increase on the Dulles Toll Road for constructing the rail project and making improvements to the Dulles Toll Road.
In addition to Chairman York’s input session, the Airports Authority has announced that three public hearings will be held in the Dulles Corridor on the proposed toll rate increases. The dates and locations are:
* Monday, Aug. 24, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ashburn Elementary School, 44062 Fincastle Drive, Ashburn, VA 20147;
*Thursday, Sept. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLean High School, 1633 Davidson Road, McLean, VA 22101; and
* Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at South Lakes High School
11400 South Lakes Drive, Reston, VA 20191.
At each of these sessions the Airports Authority will have informational exhibits about the Metrorail Project to include cost, financing and potential future improvements. Airports Authority Representatives will be on hand to discuss all aspects of the project.
