VDOT Reports Improved Contract Performance
This is the second time in the agency’s history that all of those targets were met or exceeded. The first time the agency met all targets was Fiscal Year 2007.
Fourth Roundabout at Gilbert’s Corner Opens This Week
Utilization of the system of four roundabouts in the Gilbert’s Corner area (U.S. 50 and U.S. 15) is nearly two months ahead of schedule, with the last roundabout at the site of the old U.S. 50/15 intersection ready for traffic and the closed section of U.S. 50 reopened by Friday, Oct. 2. It was originally anticipated it would take until Thanksgiving to have the infrastructure complete and all four roundabouts functional.
Opening of Battlefield Parkway Extension Celebrated
At a brief ceremony held along the Battlefield Parkway Extension on Thursday morning led by VDOT Project Manager Susan Shaw, state and local officials spoke about the collaborative effort and creative fund-gathering required to get the project finished. The ongoing efforts of U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10th) in support of the project received special acknowledgement.

A 20-year old California woman was selling magazines at the 21600 block of N. Sterling Blvd. in Sterling when she was approached by an unknown subject who then assaulted her. The victim received treatment at the scene and was then transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital.
Watson Road Reopens as Work on Roundabouts Continues
Watson Road reopened on Aug. 17 after being closed for two weeks, and travelers on U.S. 50 are now crossing new pavement as they travel the highway east of Gilbert's Corner. Located slightly north of the original highway (and away from Mount Zion Church), the new roundabout eliminates the need for a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 50 and Watson Road.
Board Makes Sign Removal Program Permanent
Section of Sycolin Road to be Closed
Beginning Monday, June 22, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Sycolin Road to through traffic between Gulick Road and Turner Farm Lane.
Guest Opinion: Route 28 Corridor and Belfort Park
The action represents a small change to a small road in a somewhat neglected area of the county–despite its prime location off Route 28; and gateway to Loudoun County. While much attention is currently centered on the plans for a minor league ballpark at the northern end of the corridor at Route 7, focus should not be diverted from the southern end of the Route 28 corridor in Sterling near Dulles Airport–the one certainty in any future planning for the area.
