Opening of Battlefield Parkway Extension Celebrated

At a brief ceremony held along the Battlefield Parkway Extension on Thursday morning led by VDOT Project Manager Susan Shaw, state and local officials spoke about the collaborative effort and creative fund-gathering required to get the project finished. The ongoing efforts of U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10th) in support of the project received special acknowledgement.

Section of Sycolin Road to be Closed

Detour will last June 22 through Sept. 4

 Beginning Monday, June 22, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Sycolin Road to through traffic between Gulick Road and Turner Farm Lane.

Route 7-607 Interchange is Moving Ahead

Funded by Loudoun County through a 2006 bond referendum, the $23.3 million “Route 7-607 Interchange” project on Route 7 at the Loudoun County Parkway went out for bids in December 2008, with the winning bidder, Shirley Contracting Company LLC, starting the work in January 2009. Once completed, one of Loudoun County’s “Top 10 Most Dangerous Intersections” will be eliminated.

Ashburn Woman Dies After Falling Out of Automobile

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Sofia Taj, 35, of Ashburn, who lost her life in an accident that occurred on Route 7 near the intersection of Claiborne Parkway at approximately1 a.m. on Saturday, May 23.
