Names Recommended for Two New Loudoun County Public Schools

Buffalo Trail Elementary School and J. Michael Lunsford Middle School are the names recommended to the Loudoun County School Board by two Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) naming committees for two new schools set to open in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Buffalo Trail Elementary School, located at 42190 Seven Hills Drive in South Riding, will open for the 2010-2011 school year.

While Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) policies and processes regarding attendance boundaries continue to be discussed and debated by members of the School Board's Ad Hoc Committee on Attendance Boundaries, a very interested public remains engaged and involved.

MS-5: How Easy It Can Be?

Absent two members, the Loudoun County Planning Commission gave unanimous approval for a commission permit and a recommendation for approval of construction of Loudoun’s first two-story middle school, MS-5, in the Dulles South area of the county. LCPS seeks to build the yet unnamed facility–a 1,350 student, 180,000 square foot middle school–on 37 acres south of South Riding at the intersection of Braddock Road and Ticonderoga Road/Loudoun County Parkway. 



Site Meeting Scheduled for Dulles School Middle School

A community information meeting regarding the proposed Dulles South Middle School (MS-5) is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 4 at Mercer Middle School, 41249 Greenstone Drive in Aldie. MS-5 site, the subject of the June 4 meeting, has, unlike other recent proposed school sites, passed preliminary muster with a majority of the members of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. However, required County land use permits and applications await necessary approvals, nor has the public yet weighed in on this site.

Dulles Column: What does Wheatlands Mean for Dulles?

Some of you may or may not have been following the recent western school site drama. As you may know, after the Board of Supervisors chose, as a body, to not support a plan-compliant and staff-recommended site at Lenah. As a result, not only did MS-5 slip a third year and HS-7 slip a (first?) year, but the existing process for school site selection was dropped in favor of seeking a new one.
