Still, despite the recent litany of headline-worthy felonies, crime in Loudoun is actually down.

According to new numbers from the Sheriff’s Office, most categories of offenses in Loudoun saw significant drop-offs the first half of this year compared to January through June of 2008.

Sunday Afternoon Robbery in Sugarland Run

On Sunday, July 19 , four men were walking in the 60 block of Sugarland Run Drive at around 2:40 p.m. when three suspects, described as black males, approached them.

According to a press release from the Loudoun Sheriff, one of the suspects demanded money and lifted his shirt – displaying a possible firearm in his waistband.

Monday Morning Autopsy May Explain Mysterious Saturday Death

An autopsy Monday morning may explain what a police release described as an “unattended death” on July 18. The victim was found unattended inside the Middleburg Training Center staff quarters – but the cause of death remained uncertain.

The autopsy will be conducted at the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas, and more information will be revealed as it becomes available.

Another Baltimore man was arrested in Loudoun this week, as Michael Moore, 47, was allegedly linked to the first robbery that occurred at a BB&T Branch bank on May 29 at West Market Street in downtown Leesburg.

Record Number of Car Break-ins Leads to Increased Awareness

In the month of June alone, there were 105 reported cases of vehicle larceny throughout Loudoun County. Many of these break-ins included items such as GPS units, MP3 players and wallets left visible. Some of these vehicles were even left unlocked according to a press release from the Loudoun County Neighborhood Watch.

Sheriff Releases Photos of Three Suspects from Ongoing Investigations

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has released three video surveillance captures in an attempt to elicit the public's assistance in identifying several unidentified suspects in ongoing criminal investigations. Each photo is also available in the “Wanted: Information” section of the Sheriff’s Office website.

Anyone able to identify one of the subjects should contact the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-0475. Anonymous callers may also contact the Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919. The provider of information leading to the arrest and indictments of a suspect may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if it is provided to Crime Solvers.

Teen Charged in Middleburg Burglaries

A 16-year old Haymarket youth has been charged in connection to the March 21 burglaries in Middleburg.

The suspect, whose name has not been released because of his age, was charged on Friday June 12 with 3 counts of burglary, 2 counts of petit larceny and 1 count of grand larceny. He is currently being held at the Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center.
