Broad Run Spartans

That video may very well be the only evidence that allows senior T.J Peeler to play in Broad Run's first playoff game three weeks from now.

The first time was in a battle for first place in the Dulles District, where the Spartans had a decisive win, 38-0. The second time was in November 2008 in the Region II Final, as Broad Run beat the Panthers once again, this time by a score of 36-6. They later went on to win the AA State Championship.

 You needed an umbrella, a poncho, and for that matter, a rope to tie onto the bleachers to hold yourself in place with the 50-mile-an-hour winds that blew through town.

 Coach Michael Burnett had the Spartans ready to take the field against Fauquier, and the outcome was decided in the first 12 minutes of the game, as Broad Run easily garnered their first victory of 2009, scoring 40 to 6 over the Falcons. It was the 21st consecutive regular season win for the Spartans, who have also won 25 of their last 26 games.

The only thing hotter than the sun at Veteran's Park on Sunday was Jenn Soroka's bat. The Spartan first baseman was less than 24 hours removed from coming through with the big hit against Orange to put Broad Run back in the title game, but as the Tunstall Trojans found out, that was just the beginning.
