Today, though, Diviney’s battle is not on the playing field but in a hospital bed after a brawl outside a Morgantown, W.Va., mini mart earlier this month left the 20-year-old with severe brain trauma and a long-road to recovery.

Authorities said Ryan Diviney, a 20-year-old general studies major at West Virginia University in Morgantown, sustained severe head trauma in the Nov. 7 altercation.

“His family appreciates the support of all his friends and the University community as we rally around him to pray and wish for his well being. I encourage everyone to continue to offer support, prayer and encouragement for Ryan and his family,” Tom Sloane, WVU’s senior associate dean of students, said in a statement.

In no way am I taking anything away from the head coaches who work tirelessly too, but in some ways, the assistants don't get enough of the credit.

We try to spread the love around when it comes to coverage, and our staff often gets into arguments about who should make All Gameday, or who should be selected to the All Star Team.

However, in a very strange twist to this column, nobody at Gameday had any issues with Broad Run being named the best again in 2009. The reason is simple–they dominated the headlines in every season, and in nearly every sport.

In a recent poll, we asked our visitors what they were looking forward to more. Their options were vacation, time at the pool, or football season. Eighty-four percent of those that voted said football was the most prominent thing on their minds.

 

Loudoun County Public schools announced the list of speakers for the 10 upcoming Loudoun County High School graduation ceremonies. Graduation ceremonies and the traditional All-Night Graduation celebrations are planned for more than 3,950 Loudoun high school seniors.

There were more than a few special guests at the May 28 ceremony honoring the five scholarship winners in Loudoun’s “Beat the Odds” scholarship awards, but none were more special than the award-winners themselves.

When I told my baseball buddies I was broadcasting lacrosse recently, the look I got was similar to the one my son Jack gave me when his mother made him eat his vegetables at the dinner table. I'm not going to lie, one year ago I gave the same look when my colleague Derek LeComte said we needed to broadcast more lacrosse on the Gameday Radio Network.
