Doug Palley in front of the new Hooked restaurant in Sterling.
Case in point is Doug Palley, managing partner of Loudoun’s own Hooked, a seafood and sushi restaurant with a devoted following. He had such a knee-rattling experience last fall when he had 5,000 square feet of expensive space lined up in Arlington to expand his eatery eastward.

“But then the market tanked,” he said of the soured economy, “I got cold feet and backed out.”

Known as Royville, the center of the hamlet was the store owned by John C. C. “Chaney” Hough and his wife Ella. The rest of the village consisted of small number of homes, a school, and the large farms surrounding it. Members of the Spence, Sowers, Nickens and Overhall families–and later the Schultz, Stickman and Creighton families–lived in the immediate area.

The band threw in a tribute to Brambleton during “Dancing Nancies” with “Could I have been/ Lost somewhere in Brambleton?”

Ashburn Column: Summer Rocks
Milkshake performs at Broadlands Live in June. (Used with permission)
I am watching my five kids dance enthusiastically around the living room while I research this column. They are listening to a track from Doug Segree's live album One Night Only. It's a melodic, laid back kind of rock. It reminds me a little of Dave Matthews, a little of Jimmy Buffett, and a lot of summertime. It is the perfect music for an outdoor summer concert.
