In an exclusive video interview with Jim Plowman, the Loudoun Independent asks the Commonwealth’s Attorney about the tragic murder of William Bennett and the brutal beating of his wife, Cynthia last Sunday morning in the Lansdowne area. Suspect in Lansdowne Attack Charged with Middleburg Burglaries

Anthony Rumont Roberts, 20, of Middleburg has been charged with three counts of Breaking and Entering, one count of Grand Larceny and two counts of Petit Larceny in connection to a series of burglaries that plagued downtown Middleburg in mid-March. Roberts has been in custody since April 5, after being apprehended in the parking lot of Loudoun Guns after allegedly committing burglary there as well.

Court documents show that agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have identified Carlos “Ciego” Bladimir Montoya is an active member of the gang Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13. Montoya was arrested on Sunday, May 3 in eastern Loudoun.

Montoya joined the ULS clique of MS-13 in 2002, and rose to become its leader. At the time of Montoya’s arrest last week, on federal charges of Aiding and Abetting Murder in the Aide of Racketeering, he was staying at a residence in Sterling.

Plowman and Fisher Go on the Record About Lansdowne Attack

Loudoun Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman and Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney James Fisher recently sat down with the Loudoun Independent regarding the Bennett case.

The questions came fast, but Loudoun’s top prosecutors share their thoughts on the investigation, gang activity in Loudoun County and how their office will decide whether or not to pursue the death penalty.  

Leesburg Police Seek Information on Leesburg Gun Burglary

The Police Department of the Town of Leesburg has begun circulating a call for information related to the April 15 burglary of Loudoun Guns, located on Industrial Court in Leesburg.

In the wake of four arrests in the death of William Bennett and the attack on his wife, Cynthia Bennett, Loudoun County Sheriff Steve Simpson and other law enforcement officials will be meeting with the public on the topic of public safety and ongoing gang concerns.

Delay in Bowman Plea for Lansdowne Murder

Darwin Bowman, one of those accused in the March death of William Bennett in Lansdowne, appeared April 27 before a Judge Dean Worcester in Loudoun’s General District Court for arraignment. He is accused with Capital Murder.

Residents of Lansdowne and neighboring Potomac Station may sleep a little more soundly after the news. Sources have reported to the Loudoun Independent that four suspects are in custody related to the March 22 murder of William Bennett and the brutal attack on his wife, Cynthia Bennett.

Benefit for Bennett Reward Fund

As part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Weeks, one Lansdowne restaurant is holding a fundraiser to add to the William and Cynthia Bennett Reward Fund. On May 1-2, a portion of dinner proceeds at Emilio’s Brick Oven Pizza Restaurant will be donated to the fund. The Fire & Ice 18-under Girls Fastpitch team, a group where William Bennett volunteered as coach, has volunteered to match the funds donated by Emilio’s.
