Late Saturday afternoon the storm winds swirled and the rain came down, but families weathered the elements to join the fun at the Loudoun Soccer’s 4th annual Family Fun Picnic at Belmont Ridge Middle School.

Like the pastoral four-acre oasis on Stubble Road in old Ashburn that he enjoys with his wife Virginia, farrier John LaRocque, 63, provides us with a window into our community’s past.

The discussion began January 26, shortly after the 2009 Presidential inauguration, and included three community input meetings on Ashburn/Leesburg high school attendance boundaries as well as public comments offered at school board meetings. Couched in the recent ‘One Hundred Days’ refrain of performance and accomplishments–the school board failed to adopt a plan to redistributed high school enrollments.

Candidates is spending the 10 weeks between April 1 and June 13 raising money and awareness for and about blood cancers. The male and female candidate who raises the most money will win the local title and go on to compete for national honors. Money raised benefits LLS's mission to cure blood cancers, and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

Responding to the aid of a man suffering from self-inflicted wounds, deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office discovered a scene much more disturbing and tragic.
