All Around Ashburn: You're Invited to a Block Party

Local businesses Action Martial Arts, Ashburn Ballet Academy and Mintons Academy of Music, are hosting a free community event Saturday August 15 from noon to 4 pm. According to Larry Minton, one of the organizers, the event includes free hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, face painting, moon bounce, a dunk tank, martial arts and dance routines. There will be a stage with band performances including a perfomance by the Briar Woods Drum Line. Hope you can make it!

Smaller Music Fest Kicks Off This Month

With corporate sponsorships hard to come by, this year’s Loudoun Summer Music Fest will be a scaled-down affair, as only four events are scheduled to take place, less than half the number held previous summers.

An Ashburn housing development could more than double in size even before it’s built.

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is now considering a rezoning request that would bring 496 apartment-style homes to 22 acres bordered by Shellhorn Road, Waxpool Road and Ashburn Village Boulevard.

"Crowded Streets" generated its own crowded neighborhood street at its Brambleton venue Thursday night. The Dave Matthews tribute band played both vintage and current DMB to the delight of the 300-plus attendees from all over Ashburn. The band threw in a tribute to Brambleton during “Dancing Nancies” with “Could I have been/ Lost somewhere in Brambleton?”

Loudoun Easterner Ceases Publication

It was announced Wednesday on their Website that Loudoun Easterner, a Landmark Media Enterprises newspaper with an office in the Ashburn Shopping Plaza, has ceased publication, effective July 22, 2009. At the time of the announcement, management of the Easterner was listed as Publisher Jeryl Parade and Assistant Editor Mike Pettigano. Former veteran editor Martin Casey left the Easterner in April.
