“Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.”
In Shakespeare’s "Macbeth," the three witches incant these infamous words and curse the man that they had predicted would one day become the King of Scotland. Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s most powerful plays. It was first performed as early as 1611 at the Globe Theatre and published in folio form a decade later in 1623.
Now the Potomac Falls High School Drama Club will bring "Macbeth" to the area Along Algonkian, with opening night on Thursday, Nov. 19. Performances continue Nov. 20-21 with all performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.
Much like Shakespeare’s original production, this will be a company production with all 22 of the cast members on stage at the same time, providing sound effects and background noises as well as playing multiple parts—witches, lords and the roles of Macbeth and Company. Macbeth will be played by Chris Matthews, Lady Macbeth will be played by Becky Granger, Banquo will be played by Quincy Murphy, and Macduff by Daniel Pepio. This talented cast brings to life a classic tale of ambition, deceit, and murder.
Tickets will be available in advance or at the door for $7. Those wishing to purchase tickets early should call 703-434-3217, and tickets will be put aside for the night of the performance.
It is important to note that not only is "Macbeth" one of Shakespeare’s most powerful plays, it is one of his bloodiest. This production contains violence that is not suitable for children, and therefore parents should use discretion when bringing their children to see it.
Renee Haynes, faculty advisor of the Drama Club, would like to thank Fight Choreographer Kevin Robinson as well as the countless students and volunteers who have made this production possible.
Join Potomac Falls High School for an amazing production of "Macbeth" next weekend; Shakespeare said it best:
“By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes.”
