While some parents merely open the door and let the little ones run wild to blow off steam, others look to give their kids more adventurous options. Here are some ideas:

Corn Maze

They learned the traditional methods to the maze by grabbing a pen and the back of a cereal box. Now give your kids an option to see how well they do when they can’t see the aerial view.

The corn “maize” at Temple Hall Farm in Leesburg is 24 acres, providing families the option to mosey through shapes like a kayaker, a child roasting marshmallows, a golfer, a person on horseback and a Temple Hall racing pig. This year’s maize celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.

While you’re there, you can pick your own pumpkin in the farm’s pumpkin patch, take a hayride, or launch pumpkins at a distant target with the farm’s Pumpkin Blaster. (These activities come at additional fees.)

The 2009 season runs from Friday, September 25, 2009 through Sunday, November 1, 2009.
