Sponsored by the Mosby Heritage Area Association, the event will be held at Oak Hill, President Monroe's Loudoun County home near Leesburg. On the same day, James Monroe himself – in the person of noted Monroe interpreter Dennis Bigelow – will provide a tour of the Oak Hill gardens, beginning at 4 p.m.
Following Preston’s address, the Mosby Heritage Area Association will present the annual Heritage Hero Award to Linda Newton, a founder of the Atoka Preservation Society. Among other things, Newton is being honored for saving the historic Rector House where John S. Mosby organized his Rangers in 1863. Previous recipients of the award include U.S. Sen. John Warner, Robert L. Smith and Karen Hughes White.
Admission to the event is $75, with proceeds benefiting the education programs of the Mosby Heritage Area Association. Sponsorships are available starting at $250. Seating is limited and reservations may be made at 540-687-6681, or on line with PayPal or a credit card at http://www.mosbyheritagearea.org.
The Mosby Heritage Area Association seeks to educate and advocate for the preservation of the historic, cultural and scenic resources in the Northern Virginia Piedmont - an area bounded by the Bull Run Mountains to the east, the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west, the Potomac River to the north and the Rappahannock River to the south. The Mosby Heritage Area Association, some 1,800 square miles, includes the counties of Loudoun, Fauquier, Clarke, Warren and part of Prince William.
