The Boys Only Hip Hop, Break Dance and Jazz Camp, taught by Dean Smith and Ryan Webb, held a performance showcasing what the young students, ages 8-13, had learned in the past week.
Parents, friends and other family members were treated with dance moves from the kids, and clapped along in rhythm with the beat.
The event kicked off with a freestyle session, in which the kids were allowed to individually showcase their talents in about 15 second bursts.
Then the group got together in the center of the dance floor and showcased their choreography, as they all rhythmically danced to the music.
At the end of the performance, the audience was treated with a performance from Smith and Webb, both past Stone Bridge High School students who were on the break-dance team there.
Smith has been working at the Creative Dance Center, located on Cape Street, since he was in high school.
Many of the students cited the late Michael Jackson as their inspiration for turning to hip-hop and break dancing – but there were a wide variety of styles from the different kids.
The class lasted all week, ending in the Friday performance. Fall classes for the Creative Dance Center start up Sept. 12, and the venue will be holding a Nutcracker production over the holiday season.
