Taking place in tiny Bluemont Aug. 15 and 16 will be the seventh annual Dog Days Peach and Sunflower Festival at Great Country Farms.

On tap for this festival of all things canine and peaches include a canine agility course, retriever fun in the farm pond, the Paw Print craft station and the return of the Doggie Olympics.

Events will also be set aside for the folks who feed and clean up after Fido. Activities will include hayrides, tours of an animal barnyard, peaches picking, peach ice cream and peach wine tastings, a pie-eating contest and live music.

As a special feature this year, the Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank will be on hand to give out information. The facility, founded in 1993, the same year as Great Country Farms, hosts a doggie blood donor program enabling dogs to help save other dogs’ lives.

Dog owners are asked to bring leashes and current rabies tags. Canine drinking water and scooping bags will be provided at the Country Store.

The festival will run both days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, the last hayride to peach picking will leave at 5 p.m. Admission is $10. Canines with current rabies tags and children two and under get in free.

Great Country Farms is at 18780 Foggy Bottom Road near Loudoun’s border with Clarke County. For directions, see www.greatcountryfarms.com or call 540-554-2073.
