Dinner…

The Dock at Lansdowne

19286 Promenade Drive, Suite P101

I’ve never exactly been a connoisseur of seafood. I’m certainly not opposed it, but it’s not really on my go-to list. After lunch at The Dock at Lansdowne, I may have to change my tune.

Meeting a friend for lunch, I selected the Calamari for an appetizer. Calamari is served widely, but I was pleasantly surprised how much tastier they were when coming from a restaurant that specializes in seafood. By the time the entrees arrived, my lunch companion had to inquire whether I was going to let her have any of them.

For the entrée, I fought my fish-phobia and decided on one of the specials—Parmesan Rainbow Trout, served with a delicately blended serving of mashed potatoes and asparagus. Lightly breaded, it practically melted in the mouth. Not overwhelming, the portions were still healthy and more than enough for lunch.

The Dock certainly benefits from its quality cuisine, but it also benefits by location—located in the growing Lansdowne shopping center. Perhaps the most interesting part of The Dock is that they have managed to capture the atmosphere of an urban restaurant in a suburban setting. The lounge at The Dock is increasing in popularity for exactly that reason—it just seems a bit more metropolitan, especially on those evenings where The Dock also host DJs, live bands and dancing.

And A Show…

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (PG-13)

Summary: Sam (Shia LaBeouf) tries to settle into college life, but he is again drawn into the conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Review:

It might just as well have been titled Revenge on the Audience. Perhaps you were like me, you enjoyed the first one enough that you were willing to risk the bad reviews and word-of-mouth that surrounded Transformers II.

Go see it at your own risk. It takes quite a bit of effort to make a robot that turns into a truck ridiculously boring.

There is very little new in Transformers II, the effects and the fight sequences are largely similar to what was seen in the last movie. If that’s enough for you (added to a number of in-jokes that I didn’t quite get), maybe you might catch a matinee. Sadly, the movie focuses solely on making the fight sequences look cool with only minimal attention paid to making the rest of the movie interesting and accessible. It lacks attention to character and the sense of wonder that made its way through the original.

Perhaps the most brutal part of Transformers II is the length. At 2 ½ hours, it strains credibility that there was not some part of the movie that could have been cut to tighten the script and add more drama to the action sequences—many of which include lengthy shot of one side or the other on their way to the battle.

I should admit that I was a touch too old for the Transformers cartoon and as such, I don’t have the fanboy devotion to it that those a little younger might feel. Even so, I can identify when someone has valuable movie property and a part of our collective childhood and not given it the attention it deserves.

Rating (1-5): 1

John Geddie is still bitter that his car doesn’t transform into anything.

Allison:) (not verified)

I think this John guy is totally wrong about this movie. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was great and the FANS also loved it. I don't noe what it is with critics that hate the film. Well if you are planning to see the movie go see it and don't listen to critics because most of the time they are wrong! GO MICHAEL BAY!!!!
