The story on page 3 relates to an alleged incident that occurred 15 years ago. “Tag” Greason, who is running for the 32nd District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, denies that the alleged event took place, and there are certain details that support this. However, even if it had occurred—should this event impact your vote? While the details may be somewhat salacious, it was not a violent incident, and there are no records that it would represent a pattern of behavior, or that anything like it ever occurred in subsequent years.
Greason has stated quite strongly that this event did not occur, and that it was a false claim against him. However, even if the accusations were true in 1994, a very thorough case would be required to show that they had relevance today. A very similar argument was made in this space several weeks ago in relation to the law school thesis prepared by Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell. The document itself is relevant only so far as it can be demonstrated to relate to his positions today. It’s a matter of argument with strong proponents on either side.
There are very few us of who did not make mistakes at 24. Most of us made mistakes much older. Being imperfect is a facet of being human and if mistakes serve a purpose, it’s to help us grow. In general, that’s why you should always listen to the advice of those who have a few years on you—the wisdom they have is likely hard-won.
A bit too often, today’s society appears to be looking for something perfect—modern incarnations of our founding fathers, who were likely as flawed and human as we are. If their ideas have survived longer than any personal foibles, then that’s because it was their ideas that were important.
Greason certainly has the credentials and the sheer energy to be a good delegate. Come November, he’ll be up against incumbent delegate, David Poisson, a man who shares these same qualities. In our opinion, this remains the race to watch in 2009, because both candidates are so strong and when that happens, the voters are treated to a campaign of ideas. We certainly hope that this remains the case.
The story on page 3 is news. It’s our considered opinion that there are readers who would want to be informed of the alleged incident, whether the charges have a basis in fact or not. As a news outlet, it’s our job to deliver the news to you—not to decide what news is appropriate for you to read.
That being said, please do not infer that our willingness to report on this incident is any indication that we believe that this campaign should be about anything other than the issues affecting Loudoun County and the rest of the Commonwealth.

If the salacious allegations were "true," as "suggested" they might be in this "article," then the case againsts Mr. Greason would not have been withdrawn and dismissed. The "truth" is that the allegations were withdrawn and dismissed. That is the truth. Instead your paper seems to want to focus on the false and withdrawn accusations made against Mr. Greason.
Why? Why does this "paper" continue to speculate on whether something was true, which was withdrawn and dismissed by a Federal Court? The only truth we know is in the court order. Why is this "paper" pretending we don't know whether the withdrawn complaint, dismissed by the Court, was true or not?
Bogus story. Bogus smear. Bogus back peddling. Bogus "reporting." Embarrassing lack of journalistic integrity? So now we have to pretend that even if something that is false were actually true, it's not so bad? It's not true, so why are we pretending? Are you kidding? Such stretched back peddling justifications for your error in judgment in publishing this article do not reflect well on you.
Who gave the story to you? Democratic operatives who want to continue to hurt Mr. Greason, his campaign, his wife and his children with the stigma of a lie. All to try to influence unfairly the outcome of an election, because the Democrats are desperate, they are losing on the real issues and cannot win a fair race? That is what it looks like; you were duped into running a false story, smearing a good man.
SHAME on YOU Mr. Geddie for not having stronger journalistic standards, and SHAME and your little friends' dirty tricks, too. Disgusting that you and these people would stoop so low. Someone on another thread said it best, "YUCK" that you would listen to this or print it.
The smear and lack of judgement is yours, Mr. Geddie. Now, we can decide if we trust you anymore to read what you write. Too bad, you have hurt yourself by this as much as anyone. You should apologize, and not run the article, which was very unfair. Make it better with honesty, not back peddling excuses for why you ran it.
