In the chaos of the moment, several of these readers and clients called into our office to ensure that we were not in the process of closing shop. While the website was only down for a few hours, the rapidly decreasing number of local news outlets in Loudoun has left some readers concerned about the long-term prospects of those newspapers still publishing.
We're not going away that easily.
I can assure our readership that the Loudoun Independent is in better financial position than it has been at any point in its history. It is also worth noting that should the worst ever occur, we'll certainly provide the community we care so much about with more of a sendoff than a blank screen or redirected URL.
The problem was solely the result of a technical and communications glitch on our side. I blame whatever corporate contact or technical support person is in charge of this type of thing—just don't tell them I said that. Or maybe it was hackers...that sounds good.
Best wishes,
John L. Geddie
Editor, Loudoun Independent
