On Oct. 15, a resident returned to their home on Stinger Drive and discovered that their home had been broken into through a rear door. Items stolen included a large amount of jewelry, a video game system and a laptop. The burglary took place between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., authorities said.

A similar burglary occurred on Oct. 6 at a home in the 42480 block of Unicorn Drive, also in South Riding. A rear door was damaged and large amounts of jewelry, cash and a laptop were stolen. The burglary took place between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Since January, Northern Virginia has experienced a rash of burglaries apparently targeting gold jewelry, authorities said. Other items taken included electronics and personal documents. Nearly all of the burglaries occurred during the daytime hours while the victims were away.

Investigators continue to investigate whether a June 24 burglary at a home on Commons Square in South Riding is also connected to these series of thefts. In the burglary, a home was broken into between 10:30 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. also through a rear door. Jewelry and a laptop were stolen.

Residents are encouraged to secure their homes, valuables and personal documents. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office also encourages all residents to report suspicious persons or activity in your neighborhood by calling 703-777-1021.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division has been working in conjunction with detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department on the investigation. "We are trying to determine if these cases are tied together, who might be a suspect, and what methods they are using to target the homes,” said Loudoun Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell.

Anyone with any information regarding these cases is asked to contact Investigator E. Wilk at 703-777-0475. If the caller wishes to remain anonymous they are asked to call Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919. If the information leads to an arrest and indictment the caller could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.
