Abduction (Attempted)
May 25, 4:27 p.m.
While walking in the area of the 25100 block of Mineral Springs Circle in Aldie, four women observed a dark-colored van in the area. The driver pulled up next to the a 20-year-old woman and asked her if she would like to enter the vehicle. The woman declined the offer and again declined when offered a ride. After asking him to leave, the driver reached out of the car window and attempted to grab the woman. The woman contacted authorities who relayed the information to the Sheriff's deputies in the area. The suspect was located and identified. Sergio E. Tobar, 32, of Herndon, was charged with attempted abduction. He is being held without bond.
Auto Accident
May 21, 11:19 p.m.
Emergency personnel responded to the 20080 block of Northville Hills Ter. in Ashburn after receiving reports that a vehicle had crashed into a townhouse. The driver of a vehicle, had impacted the rear of one of the residential townhouse units and fled the scene before returning. The impact ruptured a gas line causing an evacuation of six townhouses. Washington Gas responded to the scene and investigated before occupants were allowed to return to their homes. There were no injuries. The driver of the vehicle, David A. Fries, 30, of Purcellville, was charged with Driving Under the Influence.
Auto Pursuit
May 22, 2:25 a.m.
Responding to the area of Russell Branch Parkway and Ashburn Village Boulevard, Sheriff's deputies observed a vehicle traveling in excess of the speed limit. Initiating a traffic stop, the vehicle continued before crashing into a tree. The driver fled the vehicle and ran into the pond at Ashburn Village Shopping Center--swimming to the center island. Emergency personnel responded by boat and apprehended him. Todd M. Finnerty, 26, of Arlington, was charged with Driving Under the Influence after being treated for his injuries.
Auto Theft
May 23-24, 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
A red Honda Civic was stolen from the 43800 block of Trajans Column Terrace in Ashburn.
Burglary
May 23-24, 9:30 a.m. - 8:50 p.m.
Unknown persons entered the Baja Fresh restaurant at the 20900 block of Southbank Street in Sterling and left with cash. Both an office and rear exit door were damaged.
Destruction of Property
May 23-24, 8 p.m. - 10:30 a.m.
A fence near the 18400 block of Silverado Ter. in Leesburg was spray painted. It does not appear to be gang-related.
May 24, 12:58 a.m.
An unknown subject threw a rock at a vehicle traveling near the intersection of Algonkian Parkway and Winding Road. The vehicle's passenger side window was damaged. A search of the area did not locate a suspect to the incident.
May 24, 4:34 p.m.
Several mailboxes were spray painted near the intersection of Giles Place and Brethour Court in Sterling.
May 24, 9:24 p.m.
Unknown persons damaged several mailboxes, solar lights and a community sign near the intersection of Picnic Woods Road and Rickard Road in Lovettsville.
May 22, 1:22 p.m.
A full beer can was thrown at the Bluemont General Store at the 33700 block of Snickersville Tpke. in Bluemont. A window was damaged.
Larceny from a Vehicle
May 23-24, 9 p.m. - 11:30 a.m.
A GPS unit was stolen from an unsecured vehicle at the 22900 block of Courtland Park Drive in Ashburn.
May 24-25, 9:30 p.m. - 8 a.m.
A GPS unit and a wallet were taken from a vehicle at the 20400 block of Quarterpath Trace in Sterling.
Suspicious Event
May 22, 11 p.m.
A resident of Marian Court in Sterling reported a loud noise and told responders that they had seen two subjects running from the area. Police searched the area, but nothing suspicious was found. The subjects were described as being in their late teens to early twenties. They fled the scene in a light colored Nissan Sentra.
May 23, 9:20 p.m.
Police were approached by a female at the 19900 block of Interlachen Circle in Ashburn who stated that someone had entered their neighbor's residence. Although a rear patio door was found ajar, there were no signs of forced entry.
