The suspect was identified on Friday, Aug. 14 as a 16-year-old juvenile, whose name has not be released because of his age.
According the the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect approached the cashier, pulled out a firearm and demanded cash. He fled on foot -- but his face was plastered all over the security camera tapes.
The suspect was described as being a while male, 18 to 25-year-old, 175-200 pounds, 5’10” to 6” tall, and was wearing a “black zipper style hooded sweatshirt”.
The day after the event, Loudoun Sheriff's Office investigators released the video images of the suspect through the Alert Loudoun System -- a system that allows residents and business owners to receive notification of criminal activity in the county via e-mail and text messages.
"Loudoun County uses the Roam Secure Alert Network to immediately contact you during a major crisis or emergency and also to keep you informed about other news and events in Loudoun County." According to the Web sit. "Alert Loudoun can deliver important emergency alerts, notifications and updates to you via email, cellphone and pager...."
According to a police report, a subscriber to the system got the email and immediately recognized the suspect and informed his family. The suspect turned himself in to authorities, and was served juvenile petitions for armed robbery and grand larceny. A Loudoun County Juvenile intake officer placed the suspect on house arrest.
Juvenile petitions are pending in this case.
