Wegmans Construction
Construction scaffolding collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, injuring seven construction workers—two of them seriously.  Construction crews have been working for several months at the development project near the intersection of Rt. 7 and Crosstrail Blvd. in Leesburg.

At the time the scaffolding collapses, the construction workers were working on the exterior of the building where the future Wegmans will be located.

Seven construction workers suffered various level of injuries due to the differences in height of the scaffolding. Two of the workers were seriously injured and were airlifted from the scene to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The remaining five were transported by ground to Inova Loudoun at Lansdowne and Cornwall.

Police with the Town of Leesburg are investigating the incident. The cause of the accident will likely be investigated by the state Occupational Safety and Health Administration because the accident occurred at a work site.

Construction at the site resumed, although workers are not in the same immediate area as the accident.
