On Jan. 14, family of the 2008 Broad Run High School graduate posted on Ryansrally.org that results of a test called "evoked potential" indicated Diviney can hear sounds and sense light and darkness.

“Unfortunately,” the post continues, “there’s no way of knowing if he can process this information yet. We only know it reaches the brain stem.”

Diviney has been hospitalized since Nov. 7, when he was caught up in a fight outside a Morgantown, W.Va., convenience store. Police said an argument over the World Series led to the altercation that left Diviney with severe head trauma.

In December, two 18-year-olds from Delaware—Jonathon May and Austin Vantrease—were arrested for attacking Diviney. Earlier this month, the two were indicted by a grand jury for malicious assault. A trial is scheduled for March.

While Diviney started his treatment at a hospital in West Virginia, he has since been moved to the renowned Shepherd Center in Atlanta, which specializes in head and spinal injuries.

According to posts made online, Diviney’s has had his good and bad days. At one point, his temperature spiked to 109.8 degrees, a record high for the hospital. On Jan. 14, his temperature reached 106.8 during a surgery to implant a baclofen pump, which administers medicine internally.

During one trying day, Diviney’s dad, Ken Diviney, posted that he was “happy to hear” that two people had been indicted for putting his son in the hospital, before adding, “After the State of West Virginia is through with them, they’ll have to deal with me. They have some obligations to Ryan that I intend on seeing they meet.”

See www.ryansrally.org to learn more, including how to make a donation to help offset the costs associated with Diviney’s recovery.

Isn't it funny that his dad says "theyll have to deal with me." He needs to realize that it takes two to tango and unfortunately alot of people roll with the motto "talk blank get hit." Its a cold hard world and its obviously evolving into survival of the fitest in all communities. Everyone will think twice now before talking trash on the Phillies. We got it next year.

Philly Fan, You unfortunately are a sad commentary on todays youth and society, and an embarassment for Philadelphia. Its people like you raised by unfit parents that allow children to think its ok to hurt others. There is no
place in a civil society for kicking anyone in the head and unfortunate for you if you think its ok. I am sorry for you for not being raised by decent people.

Why is it that people who have no opinion about taxes, govt, or really about anything important will become enraged over sports? It's a game played by other grown men and shouldn't be dominating your lives.

Being from the area south of Philly, I would like to profoundly apologize for idiots like "Anonymous" referenced above. I have long been a Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers fan (and indeed we have a reputation for being voociferous) but this subhuman does not represent us and should be fed to the dogs. Ryan and his family, you are in our prayers.

BANE, I agree with your comments that arguing over sports beyond light discussion is trivial, but remember, we are talking about people from West Virginia here......i.e one of the highest unemployment, and lowest graduation rates in the US. I don't think they have much to hold onto there, so it seems fitting they would define themselves by sports. "West Virginia....wild(clearly), and wonderful (hmm, I will have to think about that one)"
