The community commander is responsible for rapid problem identification and resolution for situations like ensuring effective and timely responses to community requests, serving as an access point for citizens to the Leesburg Police Department and monitoring crime, traffic and quality of life issues in the area.

The police department invites community representatives, such as HOA board members, business representatives and residents, to attend the next police district community meetings.

District 1, consisting of the areas of Leesburg north of Catoctin Circle and north of Edwards Ferry Road NE, will meet on Nov. 19. District 2, roughly bordered by Catoctin Circle and Edwards Ferry Road in the north, the Greenway in the west and Battlefield Parkway to the south and east, will meet on Nov. 18. District 3, consisting of the southwest quadrant of Leesburg and the areas in southeast Leesburg south and east of Battlefield Parkway, will meet on Nov. 17.

All meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Leesburg Police Department headquarters, which is located at 65 Plaza St. NE. The meetings are scheduled to last an hour.

The town’s Web site features the district map in detail, so residents can find their respective neighborhoods and districts.

At the meetings, residents will have an opportunity to meet your community policing officer(s) who will be available upon request to attend your own community or business meetings throughout the year.

Questions about the meeting, the Community Commander Program or general requests for police assistance with community issues can be directed to the Districts’ commanders. The District 1 commander is Lt. Brian Rourke, the District 2 commander is Lt. Vanessa Grigsby and the District 3 commander is Lt. Carl Maupin.
