 ...to receive updates and share experience in response to the H1N1 “swine flu” pandemic.

Among the critical issues discussed were the ever-increasing number of cases reported in Northern Virginia, the apparent shortage of the H1N1 flu vaccine, and how clinics and hospitals are determining who gets the vaccine first.

Of great concern is the threat to children posed by the disease, which appears to affect the young more severely than older people, which is reflected in mortality rates.

As for prevention, the established practices must continue: frequent hand-washing; sneezing into the elbow instead of the hand; staying at least six feet from someone who is sneezing; and staying home if you have flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough and sore throat.
