- After bringing to four suspects into custody in the Lansdowne attack, Sheriff Steve Simpson is definitely the winner of the week. There was certainly speculation that a truly random crime would be almost impossible to solve. It will be interesting to see how many critics try to characterize the successful “whodunit” as an “of course.”
- It was observed by several that there were far more politicians who took part in the press conference announcing the arrests of the Lansdowne attack suspects than there were at the March press conference explaining the incident.
- School Board members Tom Reed (At-Large) and Tom Marshall (Leesburg) met with a large group of anxious parents at the Lakes of Red Rock community center on Thursday, April 23 on the subject of school redistricting. The problem appears to be that LCPS want to pursue both diversity and parity in the schools without ever communicating the goal to the public. The two Toms were well received, but not often agreed with.
- At the McAuliffe meet-and-greet on Friday the 24th, it was discovered that McAuliffe isn’t the only politico with a Clinton connection. McAuliffe Deputy Communications Director Allyson Wilson, formerly of Fox 5, was a member of one of the high school choirs that sang at his 1994 inauguration.
- Supervisor Kelly Burk (D-Leesburg) was among those who attended the McAuliffe event on Friday at Vintage 50. Have no fear, it has been verified that she would only have home-grown Loudoun wine (and just one glass.)
- Does the very public disagreement between the Loudoun NAACP and the LCPS Minority Achievement Committee represent a bigger split between the active members of the two organizations?
- Who else got lost trying to find all the participating businesses at the Bed & Breakfast Open House last weekend, sponsored by the Loudoun County Convention & Visitors Association? Another reason for updating the sign ordinance?
- There was a good crowd on Saturday for one of Stevens Miller’s (D) first campaign events in Sterling Park. Expect some news from his fall opponent Tom Rust as he begins his own campaign in earnest.
