Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Class of 2009 on-time graduation rate was 93.6 percent, 10.4 percent higher than the statewide average of 83.2 percent. LCPS also exceeded the state rates in nine statistical categories and all LCPS high schools exceeded the state graduation rate. On-time graduation rate measures the percentage of students that were first-time ninth graders during the 2005-2006 school year who earned a diploma within four years, according to the state announcement released last week.
Sixty-five Virginia school divisions had graduation rates higher than the state average, 65 divisions had rates that were lower, and one division posted the same rate as the state. Of Virginia's 324 high schools, 187 schools had graduation rates higher than the state average; two schools matched the state and 135 high schools had lower rates.
With a composite on time graduation rate of 93.6 percentage, the ten individual high schools also exceeded the state graduation rate: Briar Woods, 98.2 percent; Broad Run, 95.3 percent; Dominion, 89.1 percent; Freedom, 97.5 percent; Heritage 90 percent; Loudoun County 92.2 percent; Loudoun Valley 95.8 percent; Park View 86.2 percent; Potomac Falls 96.4 percent; and Stone Bridge 95.6 percent.
LCPS also exceeded state on time graduation rates in nine statistical categories as follows: Female students graduated on time at a 95.5 percent rate, 9.1 percent higher than the state rate of 86.4. The rate for male students was 91.9 percent, 11.7 percent higher than the state rate of 80.2. LCPS African-American students on-time graduation rate of 92.5 percent, 16.8 percent higher than the state rate of 75.7. On-time graduation rate for LCPS Hispanic students was 79.4 percent, 7.1 percent above the state rate of 72.3. White students on-time graduation rate of 96.3 percent rate, 9.3 percent higher than the state rate of 87 percent. Asian students also exceeded the state on-time graduation rate, 96.3 to 93.3 percent.
LCPS students in the category of Students with Disabilities had a graduation rate of 94.5 percent, compared to a statewide rate of 82.5 percent. Disadvantaged students in Loudoun graduated on time at an 86.5 percent rate, 13.3 percent above the Virginia rate of 73.2. In the category of limited English proficiency (LEP) Loudoun students had an on-time graduation rate 73 percent 4.2 percent above the Virginia rate of 68.8 percent.
