The ABC-VA, a statewide, pro-business association representing construction and construction-related firms, is seeking LEED Gold certification for the building, a designation given to green and sustainable building projects.
The ABC facility is a $6 million project and will be 30,000 square feet. Of that space, the ABC will occupy about 17,500 square feet and the remaining space will be available to lease.
At the groundbreaking, Patrick Dean, president of the ABC-VA said that the organization grew out of its old facility and that this new, larger facility will increase its capability to provide “world-class training” to the construction industry.
The building will have a water use reduction of about 44 percent and an energy use reduction of about 17 percent as compared to typical buildings, noted Loudoun County Supervisor Andrea McGimsey (D-Potomac). More than 75 percent of the construction waste will be diverted from landfills, she added.
The facility will also feature preferred parking for low-emitting and fuel efficient vehicles, as well as low flow plumbing fixtures to reduce water consumption, said J.J. McCarthy, the green advisor for the project.
The building is expected to be completed in June 2010.

I am very excited about this personally. It will be a great impact in our community.
