“The most important thing that I can tell you is to never hold your breath,” said Henry Johnson, president and course director of the Adventure Scuba Company. After snorting up a significant amount of water due to panicking and failing to breath, I understood this valid little piece of advice.

Holding your breath will simply make you panic from lack of oxygen, and you will fail to use the tank of oxygen at your disposal.

Safety:

The number one rule in cooking is to keep everything clean. Wash your hands thoroughly, as well as the food and tools used to cook it. Remember to wear closed-toed shoes– not just to protect your toes from sharp objects like knives falling on your foot, but also hot water that could be spilled.

 

“This is the closest you will ever come to flying,” said Sunny, co-owner of Highland Aerosports, located at Ridgely, Md., on the Eastern Shore. He was right. Of all of the extreme sports, hang gliding is the only one that allows you to soar through the air and rise higher on warm air currents.

 

 Setting Up for the Flight

When first arriving to Trapeze Schpol of New York in Washington (TSNY), the sight of the enormous trapeze overwhelms you. But be aware, this is just an initial reaction. Once up in the air, your fear will becomes a thing of the past.

 

The Amazing Race

On go-karts, the gas pedal is to the right and the brake is to the left. This is very important to remember when navigating the twists and turns of the course. While speed is vital to come out on top in go-kart racing, it is also important to remember when to use the brakes. The first time around the course is generally marked by a fair amount of skidding, as new drivers try to keep up with the more experienced racers.

 

This week, the Extreme Team took our love for adventure over a cliff...and then climbed back up. We wanted to show that adventures could have an impact inside as well as out, so we went rockclimbing. The climbs indoor were fun and helpful for future climbs that we may want to take outside. We did a little bouldering out in Great Falls Park and had recieved great advice from climbers we met along the way.

 

Skydiving 

 

 The resident, who was from Cameroon and did not speak English, frantically knocked on her neighbor’s door, unaware of how to contact the fire department. The neighbor immediately called 9-1-1.

 

“It might sound a bit cliché, but really, the freedom is why we ride,” said Mike O’Meara of radio station WJFK, when asked what is so great about riding a motorcycle. Most people who have never ridden on a motorcycle are excited by the thrill of being “bad,” while those who do ride are exhilarated by the total control of destiny they have on their bike. 

 

Shoes for Darfur
After an amazing outcome at the nation’s capital and the collection of 30,000 pairs of shoes, Soles4Souls is taking their mission to the churches on Sunday, June 17. Bethal United Methodist in Gainesville, Good Shepard Catholic Church in Rescue and Hanover Church of the Nazarene in Virginia will participate with Grace Pointe Community Church of the Nazarene, in Severn Md., to host Barefoot Sunday to benefit Soles4Souls at 10am in their own churches respectively.

 

Richard Giangerelli, President of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) Dulles Chapter 1241, tells the Loudoun Independent “Our basic intent is to lobby to protect benefits of active and retired government employees.” NARFE sets yearly legislative goals on issues related to the elderly that the organization will pursue with state officials.

 

On May 25, Hugo Antonio Callejas was charged in relation to suspicious activity with a Leesburg minor. A member of the Criminal Investigations Division was contacted b the parent of a 13-year-old girl who had been approached by Callejas. 

The girl was selling lemonade throughout the day and Callejas would periodically stop by and purchase some. On one of his stops, he allegedly gave the girl his first name, phone number, and then told the girl to call him.
