The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has released a composite sketch of the suspect in the assault of a restaurant employee last month. Police are optimistic that the public’s assistance will allow the suspect to be identified.

The Police Department of the Town of Leesburg has begun circulating a call for information related to the April 15 burglary of Loudoun Guns, located on Industrial Court in Leesburg.

A friend of mine recently received her jury notice in the mail. For some reason, the feeling that hits you upon being tapped for jury selection is extremely similar to that of being notified of an IRS audit. There’s a bit of panic in both cases as you realize that the government is going to take over your life for a little bit.

Bob McDonnell (R) has the Republican nomination for Virginia Governor locked up. Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling (R) is really facing an opponent in name only in his campaign for reelection. However, the lessons of last year (where an opponent’s lengthy primary battle resulted in higher named recognition and a stable support level) are not lost on the Republican dream team.

The Loudoun Young Democrats held their third and final introduction for the Democratic gubernatorial candidates on Friday, April 24 at Vintage 50. As expected, McAuliffe was bigger than life. After having heard of event cancellations last week and being told that his voice was horse from the hard-travelling any candidate has to do when running for office, McAuliffe still arrived in high spirits—loud and anxious to meet whoever he could. For whatever the reason, McAuliffe simply does not seemed staged—there was no attempt to hide a drink from photo opportunities and he had rolled up his shirt sleeves almost immediately.

  • After bringing to four suspects into custody in the Lansdowne attack, Sheriff Steve Simpson is definitely the winner of the week. There was certainly speculation that a truly random crime would be almost impossible to solve. It will be interesting to see how many critics try to characterize the successful “whodunit” as an “of course.”

Three Leesburg children were orphaned on Wednesday, April 29, victims of violence that occurred in the Leesburg suburb of Potomac Crossing. Leesburg Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:50 a.m., placed from within a townhouse on Smartt’s Lane, less than a half-mile from the Ball’s Bluff Regional Park.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has announced that an arrest has been made in a March 27 Home Invasion that occurred at an apartment in Lansdowne.

Darwin Bowman, one of those accused in the March death of William Bennett in Lansdowne, appeared April 27 before a Judge Dean Worcester in Loudoun’s General District Court for arraignment. He is accused with Capital Murder.

Residents of Lansdowne and neighboring Potomac Station may sleep a little more soundly after the news. Sources have reported to the Loudoun Independent that four suspects are in custody related to the March 22 murder of William Bennett and the brutal attack on his wife, Cynthia Bennett.

Stevens Miller (D), Dulles District Supervisor and candidate for the 86th District of the House of Delegates will be at Joe’s Pizzaria on Saturday, April 25 at 3 p.m. The buffet will be open during the event for $5. Donations will also be accepted at the event.

The reason that primary races are so interesting is that they seem to expose the limits of the party and show what the real issues are within the party. Within the Attorney General nomination race, the Republican candidates are differentiating themselves on the “Triggerman Rule.”

Monday, April 13 was a special day–one that Brenda Callihan, management coordinator for Inova Loudoun’s new oncology unit has been waiting for. Callihan was an early and constant proponent for a dedicated oncology unit, recognizing that those being treated for cancer have particular needs, and are more likely to be hospitalized for longer periods than many other patients.

As part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Weeks, one Lansdowne restaurant is holding a fundraiser to add to the William and Cynthia Bennett Reward Fund. On May 1-2, a portion of dinner proceeds at Emilio’s Brick Oven Pizza Restaurant will be donated to the fund. The Fire & Ice 18-under Girls Fastpitch team, a group where William Bennett volunteered as coach, has volunteered to match the funds donated by Emilio’s.
