I was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley. To this day, those strong valley values define me as a
wife and mom, community volunteer, businesswoman, and now as a candidate for state senate.
I've worked with our local leaders and elected officials from both political parties, and feel that
results are more important than pure partisan politics. From fighting Dominion Power's plan to build power
lines through the 27 th District, to working with local law enforcement to crack down on illegal immigration,
I will use my experience and work my heart out for Virginia families.

My goal as your State Senator will be simple. I believe that the people of the Virginia 27th Senate District
deserve to have a proven leader who has experience in office and will continue Virginia’s tradition of moderate
common-sense leadership to represent them in Richmond. It is crucial we address the issues of immigration,
transportation and education. I serve on numerous boards that give me first hand knowledge and experience
regarding the challenges of retirement communities, substance abuse, crime, healthy family advocacy, and
tutoring children who need extra help to reach their highest potential. As former Chair of Winchester
City School Board, as an Associate Professor in a school of pharmacy, I work every day within our community.
I am known for my public service, my accessibility, responsive communication, and hard work. I am a moderate.
I am a connector and I work in a bipartisan manner that brings people together.

Running because Republican Party has moved too far right and Democratic Party has yet to prove it can or
will govern from the center or with fiscal responsibility. No outside money is in my campaign, and I
question what there is about a Senate seat that makes it worth in excess of a million dollars to my opponents.
My website has 24 videos, i.e., there are no boring text postings, that state in detail the platform I'm
running on and the reasons for my positions.

Virginia must properly fund its core government responsibilities: roads, education, and
public safety, before funding new programs. This can be done without raising taxes. My three priorities are: 1)
Congested roads cost Virginians $4 billion each year in wasted fuel, delays, and accidents. This drag on the economic
engines of the state results in lower tax revenues. The Northern Virginia area has the second worst traffic in the
country while Richmond ranks the 4th best. Yet the 2006 regional allocation of transportation money was nearly the
same: Richmond $292 million and Northern Virginia $330 million. Congestion must be considered when allocating funds.
I propose a multifaceted solution that includes decentralizing some road construction and maintenance,
funding new road construction using the general fund, and protecting the public in public-private
partnership solutions (toll roads) to traffic problems. 2) I will fight to repeal both the so-called abusive
driver fee as well as the authorization for the Northern Virginia Transportation Administration to
institute or raise taxes or sell bonds without the approval of voters in the counties affected. I will
work to reinstitute the principle that tax ingentities should be directly accountable to the voters. 3)
I will look for ways to restore the rule of law in dealing with illegal migration. The magnet for illegal
aliens is job availability. Businesses that knowingly employ illegal employees cheat the taxpayer,
practice unfair competition with law-abiding businesses, depress wages of hard-working Virginians, and
must be discouraged at the state level from continuing that practice. If additional authority needs to be
granted to local governments to help combat this problem, I will work to that end.
